In 2009 the Canadian Lacrosse Association implemented a Long term Athlete Development program.

In this program it outlines structures for the game of lacrosse at all levels.

In 2010 the Alberta Lacrosse Association has agreed that the following  development model will be used at the mini tyke and tyke levels. The GELC supports the ALA and the CLA in developing this program. Listed  below are  the changes to how the game will how be played. 

Mini Tyke will follow the LTAD Option X

Mini Tykes will be playing cross floor 3 per team, with no goalies.
Nets will be 3ft wide by 3 ft high. The net tail will be 3ft from the boards.
There will be no contact.
No scores shall be kept
Equipment required are helmets, mask, knee pads, small stick , jock and or jill straps.
They will play with a soft ball.
Coaches will remain on the floor and officate. Modified CLA rules apply. The fall back rule applies. No officials
Equal participation with 3 minute shifts
Games will consist of 2 15 minute trainning sessions and 2 15 minute games with no face offs.

Tykes will follow the LTAD Option A
Tykes will play on a modified flor with the net situated at the top of the 24 foot line.
They will play 4 on 4.
No score will be kept.
Contact will be only equal pressure
Equipment required helmets, mask, knee pads which are optional,small stick, jock/jill strap. Kidney Protectors and slash guards.
They will use the regulation lacrosse ball
Goalies will wear category 1 equipment.
Coaches will remain on the floor. No officials.
3 minute shifts and all players will play goal
Games will consist of 2 15 minute games and 2 15 minute trainning sessions.
